Yes! The New Years party was A-MA-ZING… hung over? Did you roam about with a massive head ache? Or had your head down in the toilet? We have all been there and done that.
Here are few things which you can do to prevent or cure hangovers the next time you party
1)Don’t drink on an empty stomach: It is very tempting to save your appetite for the party, enjoy your drinks & dinner. But eat some greasy food before you start drinking to line your stomach to reduce the alcohol absorption.
2)Hydrate: Drink plenty of water before and during drinking. Booze expels four times the amount of normal water, which is the cause of multiple bathroom trips. Avoid dehydration by drinking at least one glass of water for every drink.
3)Avoid mixing drinks: Different types of alcohol have different chemicals so they have a slightly different effect on you. Add it all together and the result is a mixed-up mess and a banging headache. Pick your poison of choice and stick to it!
4)Painkillers: It is very tempting to take pain killers to get rid of that massive headache and its not a bad idea as long as you stick to the basics. Reach out for an Aspirin or Ibuprofen; take this in the prescribed dosage with lots of water to feel better.
5)Breakfast: A safe option is some mild flavoured carbohydrates like a couple of bread toasts, which should give you a boost without upsetting your fragile stomach too much. Drinking too much can also deplete your potassium levels so eating some banana or potatoes in the morning will also help.
6)Drink to restore balance: A glass of fruit juice or a sports energy drink will give your a sugary kick start and also replenish your electrolytes. To help with the nausea you can choose between ginger tea and some hot water with honey & lemon. Don’t however drink Coffee as it is diuretic and will lead to more loss of water.
7)Have a long shower: Nothing feels better than taking a shower and feeling fresh. It does wonders to your mind and body.
8)Sleep it off: If you have nowhere to be, you can go back to sleep to ride out your hangover. Don’t however be on an empty stomach and also keep having lots of fluids.
9)Exercise: The whole idea that you can “sweat it out” is a pile of rubbish quite frankly, but some gentle exercise, with lots and lots of water, can boost your endorphin levels and give you a mental kick.
10)Don’t drink to cure hangover: Alcohol may temporarily make you feel better, but it will ultimately dehydrate you and leave you feeling worse later on in the day.
Moderation is the key, but for the times you get carried away keep these in mind and have fun!
