First things first… yayyy!! You are engaged ~ Congratulations; but now what?
It is quite natural to get a bit overwhelmed, your life is about to undergo a few significant and important changes. Whether you’re having an arranged marriage or marrying your childhood sweetheart the transition and challenges of going from being to single to being married doesn’t differ much.
Here are 5 things you should do right after you are engaged.
- Call your relatives
Eh! That’s easy right? Yes it is; but when I say call I mean pick up the phone & call. Enlist your mom, dad, sister, brother, etc. to get the task done. No one wants to be the last to know and what’s worse is if they find out through Facebook, twitter, etc. So do yourself a favour and get on the phone now.
- Engagement party
Are you having an engagement ceremony or straightaway tying the knot? Now is the time to make that decision. Finding vendors these days is a mammoth task, if you get a date off-season you’re in luck if not its a challenge. In whichever case you need to decide and set a date, preferably for both as soon as you can.
- Planner or not to planner
If you are considering hiring a wedding planner, now would be the time. Another option would be to take up half the task yourself and leave the other half like the styling or organisation & logistics to the expert. Lastly if you are very brave and have abundant time on your hands you could Do It Yourself.
- Start Planning
Take the first step by hunting for venues. Keep a vision in mind of how you want the day to be, tag your family or friends along and get on with it. First the venue then the caterers and go step by step from there. Keep a file or an organizer, create timelines and checklists according to priority & importance and follow it step by step. Form a budget in mind and stay within the limit at all costs.
This is one of the most precious, irreplaceable & cherish-able time of your life. In the midst of the wedding planning, it can be a very stressful time for you and your partner. Ensure you take enough time to spend with each other without getting lost in all the mayhem. The most important thing in your wedding is the both of you. Be with each other every step of the way, relax & enjoy this time.
Your wedding is precious not only for you but for your parents as well. Spend a lot of time with them and give them the love they fully deserve.
Finally let your hair down and have the time of your life!
