Wedding Planning Checklist

When it comes to planning weddings everyone gets overwhelmed. The task is of mammoth proportions and there is no mistaking that. For all you DIY brides who wish to be a superwoman and manage the wedding by yourself, I have created a checklist (as exhaustive as I could) with timelines using my 4 years of Wedding Planning experience to make your job easier.

No matter which phase of planning you are at, this should help you plan right.

PHASE 1: FIRST THINGS FIRST

o             Decide on a date for the wedding

o             Set the date & time for all the different wedding functions

o             Decide on an approximate budget

o             Draft a comprehensive guest list for various functions

o             Look at possible venues & check their availability and cost

PHASE 2

o             Book the different venues by paying deposit and getting contract or receipts

o             Decide on the menu and book caterers for all the functions

o             Book the photographers & videographers

o             Book the priest

o             Finalise the guest list

o             Inform all out of town guests about the dates of the wedding functions

o             Look for wedding invitations & order them

o             Decide the theme & décor ideas

o             Book a decorator

o             Book a florist for other needs

o             Research honeymoon plans

o             Book DJ or entertainment for all the functions

o             Shop for wedding attire for the bride & groom

o             Shop for wedding clothes required for family

o             Shop or order for wedding jewellery

o             Start the bride on beauty, health & fitness routines

 

PHASE 3

o             Book the mehendi artist, make up artist & hair stylist

o             Book other rentals like shamiana, chairs, tables. Etc

o             Book all transportation needs

o             Arrange & finalise accommodation for all outside guests

o             Buy & order stitching all other wedding attire for bride, groom & family

o             Book the Honeymoon

o             Purchase all favours for all function

 

PHASE 4: 2-1.5 Months before

o             Send out all wedding invites or begin personal invitations

o             Finalise menus for all functions

o             Confirm all themes & décor arrangements

o             Confirm all entertainment booking

o             Book other sweets required

o             Meet & finalise specific needs with photographer & videographer

o             Meet the priest to confirm details & get a final item list

o             Book security staff

o             Book cleaning & housekeeping staff

 

PHASE 5: 1 Month before

o             Purchase all puja items according to priest list

o             Delegate all work during the further days

o             Create day plans for all functions: when & where things happen

o             Confirm all transportation of bridal party & guests

o             Collect all attire for bridal party & check fittings

o             Confirm final guest list and details with caterer

o             Register for marriage registration

 

PHASE 6: 2 weeks before

o             Confirm all bookings with all vendors

o             Final packaging of all favours

o             Segregating all items separately for all different functions in different packages

 

PHASE 7: 1 week before

o             Get all final beauty treatments including waxing, facials, etc.

o             Do any final pending payments for vendors

o             Make sure all puja items are in place

o             Help bride with final honeymoon & other packing

 

PHASE 8: Event Days

o             Make sure all items have reached the venue

o             Ensure presence of all necessary vendors and their items

o             Final check of all arrangements

o             Continuous check of all event logistics throughout the event

o             Quick packup of all items

o             Check venue for left out items

 

FINAL PHASE

o             Return all hired items

o             Efficient waste management & disposal

o             Make any leftover final payments of all vendors

o             Relieve all vendors of all contracts & thank them

o             Final completions with all contracts, payments, etc. with the family

o             Get feedback from the family & testimonials

o             Complete all paper work of the wedding & file them away separately for future
